Includes correspondence, shipping invoices, and other business papers of John M. Richards (b. 1834), merchant and owner of two schooners, the John R. Watson and J.M. Richards, built in West Haven. Other persons represented include Richards' wife and father-in-law, Gertrude (Baldwin) Richards (b. 1834) and Silas I. Baldwin (b. 1801), and merchants William Cowperthwaite and Archibald Blakeslee (d. 1830).
