Description: Born in Cheshire, Law settled in Meredith, Conn. in 1797 and stayed there for the rest of his life, serving as postmaster, judge of the Court of Common Pleas, and a pillar of the Congregational Church. The collection contains personal and business correspondence, diaries, church and other papers, medicines and recipes. A ledger (1817-41) of the Rev. Stephen Dodd of East Haven, brother-in-law of S.A. Law, deals with his salary, household supplies, and farm accounts, as well as genealogical data and records of deaths in East Haven (1825-55). In addition to his parents, Law corresponded with Simeon Baldwin, Abraham Bishop, Abigail and Stephen Dodd, William and Mary Elliot, his wife, Sarah (Lyon) Sherman Law, Stella Law, J. H. Linsley, Betsy Lyon, and Col. William Lyon.
