Description: Humphreys was an army officer and friend of George Washington, a diplomat, and a poet in Connecticut. The first part of the collection consists of papers of and about General David Humphreys and includes letters written during the American Revolution, poetry by Humphreys, and papers concerning the Merino sheep he imported from Europe. There is also a biographical sketch of him written in 1936 by F.L. Humphreys. The rest of the collection includes papers of other members of the Humphreys family and family history.
