Description: This community psychiatric service developed out of the social-work program initiated in 1908 by the Connecticut Society for Mental Hygiene; it was reorganized under its present name in 1952. The records comprise 159 case files (1902-1936), together with records of the administration of the clinic and historical documents relating to the Edwards Street School, acquired by the clinic for its headquarters in 1980. There are also papers relating to Clifford Whittingham Bers (1876-1943), founder of the clinic and leader of the national and international mental hygiene movement, and to his wife, Clara Louise Jepson Beers (1874-1966). The bulk of the collection is dated 1910-15. Access to the case files was restricted until 2008, but is now available for research.
