Description: Originally a carriage maker in New Haven, Main later became a farmer, town clerk, and eventually a state legislator from Orange, Connecticut. His papers comprise deeds (1854-64); bills and receipts (1850-1888); minutes (1849-50) of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows; records (1841-42) of the Connecticut Governor's Foot Guard, 2nd Company, of which he was a captain; and miscellaneous documents (1868-88) and marriage notifications (1825-50) from the town of Orange.
