Description: A product of Hillhouse High School, Columbia Teachers College (B.S.), and Yale University (M.A. and Ph.D), Marion Campbell Sheridan devoted her long life to teaching and advancing the course of education. This devotion is reflected in her papers, which include biographical material; documents of professional correspondence with educators, fellow teachers, students, and book publishers; documents relating to Sheridan's teaching at Hillhouse High School (formerly named New Haven High School); papers documenting her involvement with National Council of Teachers of English and its Commission on the English Curriculum and Committee to Cooperate with Teaching Films Custodians, Educational Testing Service, American Association and International Federation of University Women, College Entrance Examination Board, Connecticut State Teacher's Association (later renamed Connecticut Education Association), Yale Conference on the Teaching of English, and other professional organizations; proceedings and materials of conferences and meetings attended; manuscripts of writings; and notes and other resources for teaching ideas, textbooks, articles, speeches, reviews, and anthologies. The collection also includes her Yale dissertation and papers written as a graduate student; family correspondence; financial records; information concerning travel; correspondence of her brother, Harold Joseph Sheridan (1891-1956), an employee of Standard Oil Company in China describing activities there between 1914 and the early 1930s; memorabilia; photos; and other papers. Correspondents and family members represented include Sheridan's parents, Fannie (Campbell) and Richard Moylan Sheridan, brothers, Donald R. and Lewis C. Sheridan, sister, Edith (Sheridan) Brady, and cousin, Susan Smith Sheridan; and professional colleagues, John C. Gerber, W. Wilbur Hatfield, Edward S. Noyes, Porter G. Perrin, Thomas Clark Pollack, and Robert Pooley.
