Description: Sophia Gardner Williams Wells (b. 1855) was the daughter of Samuel William Wells and Sophia Wells. She was sister to Frederick Wells Williams (1857-1928), Assistant Professor of Oriental History at Yale. In 1895, she married Albert Grey, K.C.B. Counsel to the Chairman of Committees of the House of Lords. She and her husband resided in London. This collection contains letters from Frances Wayland Williams of New Haven and Salisbury, written to her sister-in-law Sophia Wells (Lady Grey) in London. Letters written to Lady Grey by her niece, Betty Williams Garsten of New Haven as well as other unidentified correspondents are also included.
