Description: Part of the collection documents the life of a young New Hampshire couple, Congregational missionaries in Hawaii; the other part reports the lives of their children as time and distance stretched the family ties and re-formed kinship networks. Included are correspondence of Rowell, his wife, and children with friends, relatives, fellow missionaries, and one another; letters (1880-86) from Frances Eliza Rowell to her sister Ella Maria (Rowell) Higgins; diary (1829-33) of Rowell's brother Daniel Chase Rowell (1810-36); and genealogical notes and other family papers. In addition to the family members, persons represented include Edward Locke, Asa Bowen Smith and other missionaries, and George and Sanford B. Dole.
