Description: Founded in 1927 by Mary Loveridge Robbins, the group was composed mostly of nonprofessional singers. Between 1927 and 1959 they presented concerts of their own plus some in combination with other musical organizations. They also performed at appropriate public functions. The New Haven society was affiliated with the Connecticut State Federation of Music Clubs and with the National Federation of Music Clubs. In 1959 they disbanded and many of its members joined the New Haven Chorale. The collection consists of minutes of meetings, annual reports of committee chairmen, executive board and membership lists, membership applications, concert programs, newspaper clippings, photos, and other records. Also includes material from other musical groups affiliated or associated with the society.
