Description: British Member of Parliament (for Dover), Dixwell was one of the commissioners for the trial of Charles I and signed the warrant for the execution of the king. After the restoration of Charles II, Dixwell emigrated to New Haven and assumed the name James Davids. He lived near Center Church on the Green and was survived by his widow Bathsheba Howe, and two children, Mary and John II. The papers include correspondence, Dixwell family and estate papers, and later correspondence relating to the papers as well as a miscellaneous group on the Regicides and the trial of Charles I.
